Matilda, second child of William Armstrong and Mary Ann Farrell, married James Loghrin on Jan. 31,1876 at the North American Hotel in Fergus.[1] The 1861 Census indicates that the Armstrong family lived in a log house in Eramosa Township and were farmers.
Matilda and James lived on the homestead, lot 25, concession 2, Eramosa township where he died at age 29 from inflamation of the lungs.[2] Matilda stayed on the farm but, by 1901, she had retired to Fergus with her daughter, Annie. In 1916 she lived in Edmonton with her son James; probably to help raise his daughter, Jean, after his wife died.
She died in Guelph and is buried in Eramosa Township; her name is on the family monument in the Johnson Cemetery.
Matilda Armstrong is not listed among the descendants of John and Betty Armstrong so is not likely related to Betsy Armstrong, wife of James Loghrin, or Thomas Armstrong Sr., husband of Martha Loghrin.
