Funeral rites for John Erskine Armstrong were conducted from the First Methodist Church at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon. Mr. Armstrong died early Saturday morning, May 5, in an Ardmore hospital. He had been in poor health for several months and became critically ill two weeks before his death after suffering a cerebral hemorrhage. He was born October 6, 1885 at Paris, Texas and moved to Love County from Paris 55 years ago, where he has lived since that time. He was married to Miss Katherine Black on July 19, 1908 at Pike and they were the parents of one son. Mr. Armstrong had lived for this past 44 years on his ranch southwest of Marietta, where he had engaged in farming and ranching, and for the last 32 years he had also been in the grocery business in Marietta, retiring from that occupation only recently. He was a member of the Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Katherine Armstrong of the home; a son, Max Armstrong of Marietta; two grandchildren, Mrs. Alton E. Black of Tampa, Florida and Tom Armstrong of Grand Prairie, Texas, and one great grandson, Thomas Bradley Armstrong of Grand Prairie. Interment was in Lakeview Cemetery under the direction of the Goodrich Funeral Home. Serving as casket bearers were King McKinney, Jack Thurman, Wm. C. Cochran, C. McGee, J.W. Dixon and Bill Looney. ↑ Source:#S65 28 Jun 1929. John Armstrong, 79, and an old time resident of Lamar County, died thursday, 27 Jun at the home of his daughter Mrs. Barry Hancock, near Emberson. Funeral will be at Mount Tabor Cemetery near Caviness June 28. His wife died several years ago. Children:Joe and Tommie Armstrong, who live near Caviness, Erskine Armstrong of Marietta, Oklahoma, Henry Armstrong of San Antonio, Mrs. Barry Hancock near Caviness, Mrs. Charlie Ryburn of Hugo, Oklahoma and Mrs. J.J. Pierce of Fort Worth.
