Lilly was born in 1919. Lilly Armstrong ... She passed away in 2014. [1]
In 1920, Lillie M. Armstrong was less than a year old and lived in Blount Springs, Alabama with her father and mother. On 01 Apr 1940, she was 20 years old and lived in Winfield, Alabama with her husband, Raymond, and two (2) sons.
The 2013 Elkhart County Property Tax records indicate that Raymond and Lilly M. Holsomback lived at 57562 Best Ave, Elkhart, IN 46517-1048. The Elkhart County Property Card states that the house with 0.155 acres of land was worth $18,900 in 2012.
According to family lore, Raymond Holsomback was a rum runner, in Alabama, during prohibition. There is a story that Lilly Marie (Armstrong) Holsomback took a lead pipe to Raymond in an attempt to keep her children out of the "family business". The ability to keep her children out of the illicit alcohol trade couple with job opportunities in Eklhart, Indiana, is what prompted the family to pack up and move north, out of Alabama. (This story was provided by Raymond and Lilly's daughter-in-law and still needs source information to be verified.)
According to Lilly, before she passed, she left Alabama because they were starving and she gave Raymond an ultimatum; he could either go with her and their children or stay and starve along with the rest of his family. He decided to accompany his wife to Elkhart. (This information came from Lilly's mouth there fore considered a primary source, but corroborating evidence still needs to be found.)
