Biography

Elias Armstrong was born about 1825 in Shelby County, Alabama. [1] Elias was the son of John Armstrong and Joanna Unknown.

Elias married Mary Elizabeth Gould on the 4th of March 1849, in Shelby County, Alabama. [2]

Elias appears in the 1850 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama. Elias' household appears as follows: Elias age 25; Elizabeth age 25; and Elias age 1.[3]

Elias and Mary Elizabeth were the parents of one son, Elias Armstrong.

Elias married married his second wife, Louisa Crim on the 21st of August 1853, in Shelby county, Alabama.[4]

Elias appears in the 1860 Federal census in Shelby county, Alabama. Elias' household appears as follows: Elias age 30; Louisa age 25; Elias age 9; and Thomas J. age 3. Note: Elias' household was enumerated on the 4th of July 1860; and his son Elias age 9, also appears in this census in the household of his grandfather, John Armstrong with his age given as 8 years.[5]

Elias Armstrong served in the Civil War in Company E, 7th Alabama Calvary. Elias was hospitalized in Jackson, Mississippi. When the Confederates evacuated the hospital at Jackson, Mississippi the Sisters of Mercy accompanied the Confederate wounded in boxcars to the hospital at Shelby Springs, Shelby County, Alabama. Elias Armstrong died at the hospital on the 15th of October, 1864, and was buried in the Confederate cemetery behind the hospital.[6]

Armstrong-20735 and Armstrong-5369 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same men. Armstrong-20735 has no sources except Ancestry. These should be merged to remove the duplicate.
