James Marshall Armstrong was born in 1874 or 1875 probably in Oso Township, Frontenac County, Ontario, son of John G. Armstrong (1825-1905) and Ann Atcheson (1836-1923). He was in Oso Township with his parents in 1881 and 1891. In 1897 he married Susan Flemming in Bathurst, Lanark County, Ontario. Susan died in Kingston, Frontenac County, in 1907. In 1911 Marshall was in Kingston with his mother and three children. In 1912 he married Mary Mieske in Kingston. In 1921 they were in Kingston with Armstrong children ages 1, 4, 8, and 18. Mary died in Kingston in January 1925. In December 1925 Marshall married Florence Campbell in Kingston.
