Robert was born 19 August 1835 on the Wyandot Reserve near Upper Sandusky, Wyandot County, Ohio. He was the son of Silas Armstrong and his first wife Sarah Preston.

Robert drowned in the Kansas River on 15 July 15 1858.
[2][3] He is buried at Huron Indian Cemetery, Kansas City, Wyandotte County, Kansas.
