Biography

Sarah Arnell was born in 1856 in Terrington, Yorkshire, England to Francis Arnell and Jane (Blakey) Arnell. Her birth was registered in Malton, Yorkshire in the second quarter of the year, with mother's maiden name Blakey.^[1]

Sarah Arnill, daughter of Francis & Jane, was christened on 25 May 1856 in Terrington.^[2]

In 1861 Sarah Arnell (age 4, Scholar) lived in Terrington with her father Francis (34, Tailor & Draper), mother Jane (33), and six siblings: William (12, Scholar), Elizabeth (8, Scholar), Ann B (6, Scholar), John (3, Livin Scholar), Esther (3, Livin Scholar), and Francis (1), as well as uncle Richard Arnell (25, Tailor) and father's apprentice John Cooper (18, Tailors Apprentice).^[3]

In 1871 Sarah Arnell (age 14, General Servant Domestic) lived at Wath House in Wath, Yorkshire in the household of her employer Thomas H Walker.^[4]

Sarah Arnell (age 20, daughter of Francis Arnell) and John Calvert (age 23, son of William Calvert) were married on 24 Nov 1875 at St Michael's in New Malton, Yorkshire.^[5] The marriage was registered in Malton in the last quarter of the year.^[6]

Sarah and John had five children:

In 1891 Sarah Calvert (age 36) lived in Danby, Yorkshire with her husband John (39, Acting Sergeant of Police) and two daughters: Annie (13, Scholar) and Emily (5, Scholar).^[8]

In 1901 Calvert (age 45) lived at Yeoman Street in Skelton with her husband John (49, Now Peart Insurance Agent Retired Sergeant of Police) and daughter Emily (16, Dressmaker).^[9]
