Arthur Ernest Arney was born on 16 April 1883 in Baringhup East, Victoria, Australia, son of Eliza Ann (Roberts) Arney and Charles Albert Arney.^{[citation needed]}

He married Elizabeth Catherine Summers on 7 June 1906 at St Luke's Church on the corner of Dorcas and St Lukes Streets in South Melbourne, Victoria.^[1] Their children were:^{[citation needed]}
