Biography

James Arthur Arrington was born around 1775[1]

He married about 1792 as calculated form his age and his will[2] which lists children whose ages (calculated from census documents) predate his marriage to Leah Portis. These children are likely John Arrington born in 1792, Lewis Arrington born about 1797, Ann Arrington born about 1798, and James Arrington born about 1799.

He married Leah Portis some time before May 1800 as documented by references in the settlement of the will of Leah's father, John Portis. The children from this union are likely Gideon Arrington, Martha (Arrington) Sturdivant, Henry Arrington, Nicholas Arrington, and Littleton Arrington.

James Arthur died at his residence in Warren County 2 November 1851 according to a short notice in a Raleigh, NC newspaper.[3]
