Biography

Alexander Ashby is believed to be the son of John W Ashby and Elizabeth Barry ^[1] and was born in the year after they married (they married in Sydney in 1852).

He married Emma Clarebrough about 1878. ^[2] Alexander was about 25 years old.

In 1895 while a sawmiller, he was adjudicated bankrupt, and was released from administration in 1897.

He died in 1935 aged 81 years old. ^[3]

Alexander's death notice read:

ASHBY. —At his late residence, Te Kopuru, Alexander Ashby; aged 8I years. Deeply regretted.(AUCKLAND STAR, VOLUME LXVI, ISSUE 38, 14 FEBRUARY 1935)

He was buried in Dargaville at the Old Mt Wesley Cemetery.
