Moses Stratford was born in Radnage, Buckinghamshire in 1843.[1] He was baptised on 22nd October 1843 at St Mary's, Radnage on 22nd October 1843.[2] He was the illegitimate son of Eleanor Stratford.
Marriage
Moses Stratford or Ashby and Sarah Ann Stone were married after banns on 19th March 1866 at St Mary's, Radnage, Buckinghamshire.[3] Moses was 22 years old, a bachelor living in Radnage and working as a chair turner. He was the son of Moses Ashby who was a labourer. Sarah Ann was 20 years old, a spinster living in Radnage and working as a lace maker. She was the daughter of William Stone, who was a chair turner. The witnesses to the marriage were Joseph and Sarah. [4][5]
The marriage is registered with the groom's surname of Stratford, whilst the parish register says "Stratford or Ashby". This is because Moses was born before his parents married and his mother's maiden name was Stratford. Moses and Sarah Ann used the name Ashby when registering their children and on the censuses.
