John Ashcraft was born in 1737 in Fayette County, Pennsylvania the son of Daniel Ashcraft 1698 - 1755 and his wife, Elizabeth LEWIS 1702-bef1791.
John Ashcraft enlisted in the Revolutionary War as a Private in the spring of 1781 serving in Captain Ashcraft's company. John and Captain Ashcraft marched to Fort Pitt where he joined General George Rogers Clark's expedition marching to Wheeling, West Virginia under Captain Jacob Cline.
Even though he was discharged from the militia, he went out on frequent alarms against the indians.
