Jane (Asher) Neal was born on 9 Feb 1825 in Clay, Kentucky, United States, daughter of Dillion Blevins Asher (~1777 - ~1844) and Elizabeth Asher (1790 - 1868).
Note: Either Andrew or Elizabeth died before 1900 and the other died after 1900.[4]
In 1850, Dempsey (shown as Demsey, age 25, in the census record) and Jane (age 23) lived in Washington Township, Morgan, Indiana, United States with children James (age 5), and Andrew (age 1). Dempsey was a laborer.[2]
In 1860, Dempsey (age 39) and Jane (shown as Jennie, age 35, in the census record) lived in Washington Township, Morgan, Indiana, United States with children James (age 14), Andrew (age 11), Harvey (age 9), Robert (age 4), Elizabeth (shown as Betsey, age 2), and William (age 1). Dempsey was a farmer.[3]
In 1870, Jane (age 45) was a widow living in Washington Township, Morgan, Indiana, United States with children Andrew (age 20), Harvey (age 18), Robert (age 15), Elizabeth (age 12), William (age 11), and Mary (age 8). Andrew and Harvey were farm laborers.[5]
In 1880, Jane (age 55) lived in Washington Township, Morgan, Indiana, United States with daughter Mary (age 18).[6]
In 1900, Jane (shown as Jennie, age 75) lived alone in Washington Township, Morgan, Indiana, United States.[4]
After suffering from dropsy for several weeks, Jane died on 3 Nov 1901 in Washington Township, Morgan, Indiana aged 76.[7][8]
Aunt Jennie Neal, living on Little Jordan, south of this city, died at four o'clock Sunday morning of dropsy, with which she had been in a critical condition for several weeks.
The funeral services took place at ten o'clock Monday morning.
The deceased was 77 years old and was one of the pioneer settlers of this vicinity.
She was known by all in her vicinity of the county and all had a kind word for her. Her willingness and usefulness in sickrooms had taken her into almost every home of her acquaintance and had endeared her to all.
Her daughter, Mrs. Doug Baker of this city, and three sons survive her.
