Biography
Joel Asher was Jewish according to his marriage notice. In 1870 he served on the jury of an inquest into the death of Mr Lazarus in Auckland.

- No marriage for an Asher male to any Harriet or a Keesing (or variations) on NZBDM. May be because married according to Jewish rites, and not civil marriage
- No marriage for an Keesing female to any Joel, Henry or an Asher (or variations) on NZBDM. I have uploaded the marriage notice to show it did happen but it does not say where they were married
