Biography

Mercy Ashley, daughter of Abraham Ashley and Susanna (White) Ashley, was born in Rochester, Massachusetts on October 5, 1708.^[1][2]

The marriage intentions of Mercy and her first cousin William Ashley were recorded in Rochester town records on January 26, 1732/3.^[3] They were married in Rochester on February 12, 1732/3.^[4][5][6]

Mercy and William had the following children, all born in Freetown, Bristol County:^[7]

1. Abraham, b. August 8, 1743 in Freetown, d. December 20, 1824 in Freetown
2. Jepthah, b. about 1745 probably in Freetown

Mercy died sometime before May 31, 1746. On that date, William filed his intentions to marry, second, Elizabeth (Macomber) Rounceville, widow of William Rounceville.^[8][9][7]
