Richard Assheton or Ashton of Middleton, Lancashire, (1536-63). Only son of Richard Assheton (c.1511-50) and his first wife Anne, daughter of Sir Thomas Gerrard, kt., of Bryn (Lancs), born July 1536. He married Elizabeth Davenport (d. c. 1600) in 1549/50. Their marriage settlement is dated 6 February. She was the daughter of Sir William Davenport, kt., of Bramhall (Cheshire).

The only source on this profile states that he was Sheriff of Lancashire in 35 and 40 Elizabeth, clearly inconsistent with the (unsourced) date of death.

Edit: the Victoria County History confirms the death date, and that it was his son who was the Sheriff.
