His mother died when he was a small boy, and soon after that his father moved to Freeport, Stephenson, IL. he worked for his parents on a farm.
He came to Phillips county in 1878 with his brother-in-law W.H.H. Gray and took a homestead 4 miles west of Kirwin.
Gives date of marriage. Had 6 children: Eva, Olive (died in young womanhood), Elsia Grace (who died in infancy), Annie Myrtle (wife of Dee Bradley, living in Colorado Springs), Asa Clarence (died just before father), Samuel Curtis.
Survived by 3 half brothers: Albert and H.T. Atchison of Kirwin, Ira of Colorado; 3 half sisters: Mrs Emma Van Allen of Kirwin, Jennie Thompson of Kansas City, MO, Mrs Hugh Duff of Topeka.
