"Andy Atkins & Juretta Tallent Atkins were the parents of 17 children. After Juretta's death in 1924 he lived with his son Joseph "Joe" William Atkins on a farm on Tellico Rd. in Madisonville, Monroe County, Tennessee. This farm is on the old road to Tellico Plains close to Notchey Creek Baptist Church and Cemetery where they are both buried. My Grandfather Joe could not think of his parents' graves being rained & snowed on, so he built a house over their grave. This house still stands over their graves today. My Mother Gertrude Atkins Lee & my Grandmother Phoebe Atkins always saw that their graves were decorated on Mother's Day each year(also Decoration Day). It was a time each year when I would meet all my kin folks. Great Memories!
