Margaret was born on 20 February 1857 in Freshwater Bay, Western Australia.[1] She was the daughter of John Atkinson and Ann Graham.
She married Jacob York Purser on 8 December 1878 at Bindoon.[2]
After a long and trying illness Mrs. Margaret ("Granny") Purser passed away on Wednesday last, June 6th, at her home in Moora. She took to her bed over a year ago and was not able to get up again unaided till the time she died. Born at Claremont 88 years ago, the late "Granny" Purser had spent the last forty years in the Moora District. In the early days she was a midwife, and travelled the district in that capacity. She was long known for her bright and cheerful disposi-tion and also for her tireless energy, used in good part in helping others. When she was well past eighty years, her energy was seemingly but little impaired and often she had to be persuaded against chopping wood at her advanced age. "Granny's" long illness irked her very much for it was her first illness in all her long life. The late Mrs. Purser is survived by two sons and four daughters; 67 grandchildren and 72 great-grand children. The funeral took place at St. James' church and afterwards at the Moora cemetery.[3]
