Note: 'Ye Atte Wode Annals' state: 'His brass related that he served Queen Elizabeth after the second year of her reign. His position was undoubtedly that of Assistant Sergeant of the Queen's Carriages, with his cousin, John Ownstead, as Sergeant.' He m. Olive, dau. and heir of John Harman; most of their children are on the parish register of Gatton and Sanderstead. 'When in the country, they resided at Court Farm and here one night when roads were specially bad and the Queen returning from one of her trips, she spent the night at Court Farm. The Greshams held the court itself but were Catholic, so Elizabeth preferred to stop with Nicholas.' He was buried in St. Martin's Church May 14 re: parish registers, but his brass states his burial was May 12 in Sanderstead Church ('evidently a guess of his grandson, Harman, 2nd').

I'm a direct decedent of Henry Atwood/Wood. I would really like to prove he is the son of John Atwood AKA "The Leather Seller" and that they are from Sanderstead Court. My father has tested on FamilyTreeDNA and has done a Y-DNA test. All of our matches we can Identify, they point to Henry except one who points to Stephen. According to Elijah Francis John's son's Harmon and John were baptized in St. Martins. He stated there was no doubt that Stephen was their brother and little doubt of Henry. In hopes of one day proving the relation genetically I've created a new project at https://www.familytreedna.com/groups/atwoodsof-sanderstead-court/activity-feed I would encourage all other descendants with an unbroken line to take a Y-DNA test and join the project.

Wood-779 and Atwood-3 appear to represent the same person because: Same spouse, as the recent G2G mentions this family varies their name between Atte Wode -> Attwood -> Wood -> Atwood. His sons John and Harmon were Atwood.
Atwood-1009 and Atwood-3 appear to represent the same person because: I know these have been rejected as a match before, but some justification should be provided if rejected again. Thank you.
Hello Crayton, I noticed that you have a Nicholas Atwood who appears to be identical to another brother, Nicholas Atwood. Please consider a Merge. Thank you, Renee Malloy
