Jeanne Aucoin is the ancestral matriarch of the Acadian Aucoin/Girouard family.

Jeanne was baptized on November 26, 1630 at the parish of Sainte-Marguerite at La Rochelle, Aunis (today Charente-Maritime), France. Her parents were Martin Aucoin and Barbe Minguet and her god-parents were Arnaud Gyon and Jeanne Riou.[1]Baptism Record for Jeanne Aucoin, Parish of Sainte-Marguerite, La Rochelle, France:

According to the 1767 depositions of their descendants, Jeanne came to Acadia with her husband François, but it's unclear if that means they were already married when they came.[4]

Jeanne (16) married François Girouard (25) (born about 1621 in France) in 1647 in Acadie, Nouvelle-France.[3] Their known children were:

  1. Jacques Girouard (abt. 1648–1703) .
  2. Marie Girouard (abt. 1650–aft. 1714) .
  3. Marie Madeleine Girouard (abt. 1654–aft. 1714) .
  4. Germain Girouard (1657–bef. 1693) .
  5. Anne Charlotte Girouard (abt. 1660–1742)

They raised their family in Port Royal as they were found there in 1671[5]and 1678.[6].

In 1686, at Port Royal, Jeanne AUCOIN, aged 55, was living with her husband, Francois GIROUARD, aged 70. They owned 1 gun and were living on 5 arpents of cultivable land with 13 cattle, 16 sheep and 8 hogs. Their daughter and 4 grandchildren were listed in the next entry: Charlotte GIROUARD, aged 26, an adult married to Julien LORD, aged 33; children: Alexandre, aged 10, Jacques, aged 8, Pierre, aged 5, and Marie, aged 1.[7]

She was also found in the 1693 census.[8]

Jeanne Aucoin, widow of Girouer le Pere, died in Apr 1718, aged more than 90 years and was buried 18 April 1718 at Port Royal, Acadia.[9][10]

Jeanne Aucoin's passed mtDNA Haplogroup H to her children. She is the Earliest Known Ancestor (EKA) of two FTDNA testers who have taken a Full Sequence mtDNA test, both of whom are reporting Haplogroup H.

Landry-619 and Aucoin-10 appear to represent the same person because: Based on all of the recent comments on Jeanne Landry, this seems to be the correct answer.

Jeanne Aucoin has almost the exact death date and very close birth date. No need to change her surname as we would merge into Aucoin with an explanation.

Jeanne Aucoin, widow of Girouer le Pere, passed away in Apr 1718, aged more than 90 years and was buried 18 April 1718 at Port Royal, Acadia.

I saw those parents and thought their names didn't look french at all. The new solution is much better. Jeanne Aucoin is the only one I saw in all those censuses that would match. I see David proposed the merge, so thank you all for pitching in.

When created these were the parents: Ambrose John Buchheit (Buchheit-88)

Mother () Carl Raymond Ameling (Ameling-68)

Then another mother surname Fosse was removed. Looks like this profile is a mistake. We could fine an Acadian woman with same surname and given name Marie or Anne born about the same time and place and propose a merge. This one is a mistake so far as I can tell, but perhaps the PM can shed some light.

No sources, lack of information, uncertain existence. How do we deal with this person?

Jacqueline...there is a baptism record showing that Jeanne is the daughter of Barbe Minguet. I suspect the Profile Manager assigned the wrong wife of Martin Aucoin to be her mother.

I am wondering what the source is for Marie Salle being the mother of Jeanne Aucoin married to Francois Girouard? Thanks

Aucoin-387 and Aucoin-10 appear to represent the same person because: Same name, dates, father, spouse. Mother is in disagreement. These two had been rejected as matches by someone, however, I believe they are the same, just need to have the mother resolved before merging. Thanks!

That was weird. Not sure how this profile went private. If it happened in the last merge, it should've automatically been fixed on the next edit since the birth date is over 200 years ago. Anyway, it's fixed now!
