William Austen, son of Henry Austen and Mary Ede was born 26 October 1787. He married Mary Anne Mansfield 1 March 1809 in St. Matthews Presbyterian church, Halifax, Nova Scotia. [1] They had a daughter and on 4 February 1812, his wife died. When he married again, his occupation was given as merchant and master mariner. William's second marriage was to Jane Howe on 25 July 1816 in Halifax, Halifax, Nova Scotia. [2][3][4] They raised William's first daughter and their own three children.
"His health was bad and for many years he was confined to the house." [5] William died 8 December 1843 in Saint John, Saint John, New Brunswick. [6]
