Biography

Ivy was born in 1885. She was the daughter of George Burt and Sarah Kelly. She had previously lived at Guildford and Manly in Sydney NSW before she passed away in 1974. [1]

06 Mar 1919 - Northern Star (Lismore)

PERSONAL.

A very pretty wedding was solemnised at the Bourke-street Methodist Church on February 15th by the Rev. F. Colwell. The contracting parties were Thos. Henry, eldest son of. Mr. and Mrs. James Sawyer, of Dubbo, and Ivy Stella, third daughter of Mr. and Mrs. G. L. Austin, of Chatswood. The bride was given away by her father. She wore the usual wreath and veil, and carried a shower bouquet, the gift of the bride groom. Her sister Ruby acted as bridesmaid. Mr. George Lean acted as best man. As the bride entered the church the "Wedding March" was played, and during the signing of the register Miss Varra Latcham sang Because." After the ceremony the party adjourned to the Lyceum Cafe, where the wedding breakfast was served. Mr. and Mrs. Sawyer left by car for the Mountains, where the honeymoon will be spent. Their future home will be at Dubbo.— "Methodist.-" [2]

Research Note

The death notice of Henry Coleman mentions he had a step-son named Austin - at a guess, Ivy's son. - Family Notices (1942, June 10). The Sydney Morning Herald (NSW : 1842 - 1954), p. 14. Retrieved July 4, 2023, from http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article17796223

Pure speculation - NSW BDM Death index - COLEMAN RUSSELL AUSTIN; 13286/1976; JAMES; IVY; 001?? - lines up with a birth in 1920 - COLEMAN RUSSELL AUSTIN; 53435/1920; DUBBO - no parents named
