Notes BIRTH-MARRIAGE-DEATH: In an article appearing in "Austins of America," Dr. Michael Austin, Editor, August 1982 edition, p 37, entitled "Pruit Alias Austin," Janet Austin Curtis states: " Champness Austin, b. 1769, d. between 1850 and 1860 in Rockingham County, N.C. He married first 27 July 1796 in Pittsylvania County to widow Aincy Morton Dear, daughter of John Morton. He married second 31 October 1826 in Pittsylvania County to Elizabeth "Betsy" Grover, who was b. 1796."
CENSUS-RESIDENCE-OCCUPATION: 1840 US Census, p 178 and 1850 US Census for Rockingham Co., NC shows Champness (age 81 in 1850) and his family living there. Census indicates he was a shoemaker.
MOTHER-GREAT GRANDFATHER: John Clinard, 25 Jun 2015, "Connections to the E1b1a Austin Family", p 9. In possession of AFAOA genealogist. " Champness Terry ( son of Thomas Terry, Sr. ) was the grandfather of Hannah Terry, who married Joseph Austin, and who had a son named Champness Terry Austin.". John notes that Mike Terry of the Terry Family Y-DNA Project does not totally agree.
