Biography

Pasco Austin was born 27 OCT 1826 in Unadilla, Otsego, New York, USA He was the son of Pasco AUSTIN b: 2 MAR 1787 in Scituate, Providence, Rhode Island, USA and Mary Ann COLLINS b: ABT 1787 in Scituate, Providence, Rhode Island, USA

Pasco came with his mother and family to Wisconsin near the Illinois border 10 May 1840. His mother died about a year after they arrived. He worked for a farmer, Samuel Ransom, for about a year and in the spring of 1843 he went to Hebron, McHenry Co., IL, where his brother John had settled and entered land on Highland Prairie. Pasco worked on the farm for his brother for about six months, after which he purchased 4 yoke of oxen and eng aged in the breaking of wild prairie land, a business which he followed f or about four years. He then engaged in the buying of stock for about 10 years. He went to Woodstock, in 1843, when there were only a few families in the village. There, he helped Alvin Judd, one of the pioneers of McHenry Co., draw the first sawed lumber and shingles into Woodstock, which were used to erect the first frame house in the village. Pasco married Harriet Judd, a daughter of Alvin on 7 Oct 1848. After the marriage they lived with the Judd family and helped in the operation of the stage line from Woodstock to Beloit, Burlington, Elgin, Marengo and points in the northern part of the state. In 1863 he purchased a farm about three miles northwest of Woodstock, where he moved his family and operated the farm for about 7 years. In 1871 he was operating a livery stable in Chicago and in 1873 sold out this business and returned to Woodstock where he made his home until his death 1 Feb 1908. ----From Bond & Austin Family, http://wc.rootsweb.ancestry.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=rbond007&id=I1502
