Sarah or "Sally" Keene Austin was born in 1754 in Pennsylvania. She married the widower, John Barry in Philadelphia on 7 July, 1777 at Philadelphia Old Christ Church[1] by the Episcopal minister Reverend William White. Sally eventually converted to her husband's Roman Catholic faith.
A flag she sewed flew on one of John Paul Jones' ships, Ranger.
She was interred in the Parish Cemetery of Old St. Mary's] Catholic Church. The Churchyard is next to the Church building on Fourth Street, Philadelphia. This historic parish was founded January, 1763 and is still in use in the Philadelphia-South Vicariate of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.
