William Austin married Rebecca Moses in Grainger County, Tennessee in 1798. His sister, Hannah, married William Wood about the same time. Grainger County predated the existence of Anderson County during the time of their marriages. Anderson County was formed in 1801 from parts of Grainger and Knox Counties. How did William Wood meet Hannah Austin? Interestingly, William's father, Obediah, and Hannah's father, Stephen, served under General Greene during the Revolutionary War and probably knew each other. Both gentlemen returned to the land of their fathers, Obediah to North Carolina and Stephen to Virginia. After the birth of several children, the desire to leave civilization may have struck both veterans at the same time. (North Carolina was having some political problems that resulted in many of the state's citizens to head west.) Perhaps the two veterans stayed in touch and mutually agreed to take their families to Tennessee. At any rate, William Austin found his wife in Tennessee, as did William Wood. William and Hannah moved farther west to the Arkansas Territory, while William and Rebacca stayed in Grainger, Tennessee. In 1840, William Austin was a widower with one son living with him, Thomas. They decided to move to Marion County, Arkansas in the mid 1840's. By this time, Thomas had married Margaret and had a son, Wesley. Thomas was an attorney and served as the County Clerk for two terms. William married the widow, Mahala (Welborn) Hall.

Hannah Austin Wood, daughter of Stephen "Captain Baldy" Austin and Dorcas Austin, married William A. "Dancin Bill" Wood in 1805. They first moved from Tennessee to Arkansas in 1818. They had nearly 15 children from 1805 to 1833, and many stories were written about this Marion County Arkansas family in the "Brambling Bush".

Burial Site: Hannah's husband for 60 years, William A. Wood, was buried in Johnnie's Creek Cemetery, a few miles west of Yellville, Arkansas. Hannah died in the same area 5 years after her husband. While I've found no specific documents indicating she was buried with her husband, a search of cemeteries in the area didn't find her grave elsewhere. George's Creek Cemetery is neabry too but wasn't established until after her death.

In 2014, descendant's of William and Hannah Wood looked for the burial site, without going onto private property, and didn't see an obvious location for the graves mentioned above.
