Biography

Birth and Baptism

Elizabeth Austen was baptised in Sompting, Sussex 19 June 1785. Her parents were John and Sarah Austen^[1]

Marriage

11 Apr 1803: Marriage of Samuel Greenyer and Elizabeth Austen at Sompting, Sussex, England.^[2]

Samuel and Elizabeth had eleven children, nine of whom were born in Lancing where Samuel worked for Mr Penfold. He died on 7 November 1858 and was buried on 11 November in St James's churchyard, Lancing. The inscription on his headstone reads : "To the memory of SAMUEL GRINYER who died Novr 7th 1858, aged 77 years, upwards of fifty of which he honestly served Mr PENFOLD, and at his death his son who has erected this stone in respect of the memory of a faithful and honest servant, also ELIZABETH his wife who died Decr 7th 1837, aged 52 years".

Death

Elizabeth died 7 December 1837 and was buried in St James the Less Churchyard, Lancing, Sussex^[3]on 20 December^[4]
