Research Notes

Changed death from "about 1800" to "about 1803" to match FindAGrave memorial.[3] Left strange URL source for this same memorial below as I don't understand one of the parameters on the URL, but the template works well, I recommend. --McClure-3513 12:57, 8 January 2018 (EST)

Discussion

I believe Moses Ayers is the son of Nathaniel Ayers of Somerset County, New Jersey. Nathaniel Ayers was a witness to the will of Phillip Cox, father of Dorcas Cox, in Somerset County, New Jersey.

"I am not sure who Moses' father and mother was but it is not the Nathaniel and Rhoda Ayers that died 12 Feb 1777 in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. Yes this Nathaniel had a son Moses but he went to Franklin County, Georgia, I believe there is a possibility they were related to our Moses. I found this out by working with a descendant of this other Moses. Need to do more research and see if we can find the father in western Maryland, Pennsylvania or New Jersey. So the Nixon Family Memorial book is wrong on who the father was." --unknown

I keep seeing arguments that this Moses cannot be the son of the Nathaniel Ayers, 1700-1777, who is also listed in the "Treman Family" books[4] (public domain as it is over 75 years old) with the same information as in the Nixon books it seems, but I have never seen this claim with any source at all. I myself have not seen the Nixon book. The Treman book doesn't list it's sources, at least not well nor often. I've seen warnings that all sources written after the Treman book could have used it as a source (Treman 1901 and 1905, Nixon 1970). However, we have two published genealogies vs. nothing. Note that this Nathaniel Ayers 1700-1777 is/was connected as father for this Moses Ayer before I made this commentary. I would love to see any original sources that confirm or deny either theory. --McClure-3513 14:57, 19 July 2017 (EDT)

Ayers-274 Moses Ayers, Sr. born 1747 VA. is most likely not a brother of Moses Ayers-42. Both appear to have a DAR source attached, is it the same source or 2 different sources?

The two Moses Ayers are most likely related, however how has never been determined to my knowledge.

Dorcas Cox Ayers wife of Moses Ayers-42, had brothers Jacob & Samuel Cox who settled in Halifax, Pittsylvania, & Henry Cos., VA. It appears that they remained on the same land & that the county lines changed.

Descendants of the Cox families also went to Franklin & Gwinnett Cos., GA., among Pendleton Dist. & Edgefield Co., SC, Davidson Co., NC/TN, Warren Co., KY., Hawkins, Union, Giles Cos., TN. & Marshall Co., MS.

As someone previously mentioned, Nathaniel Ayers (alleged father of Moses Ayers-42) was a witness to the will of Phillip Cox, father of Dorcas Cox Ayers wife of Moses Ayers-42, in Somerset Co., NJ 1736.

I believe Ayers-274 needs to be removed as a brother to Ayers-42.

Ayers-3469 and Ayers-42 appear to represent the same person because: Moses Ayers-3469 is listed as a brother to himself. Needs to be cleaned up.
Does someone have documentation of Moses being born about 1725? The findagrave source on this page shows his tombstone which reads b. 1732...
