Rebecca (Ayers) Abernathy is a part of US Black heritage.
Rebecca was born in 1896 in Alabama. She was the daughter of Jethro and Texana (Smith) Ayres.[1][2]
Rebecca Ayers married Jake Abernathy on 19 August 1914 in Marengo County, Alabama.[3]
In 1920 they were living in Jefferson County, Alabama with sons William, 5 and Jake Jr, then less than one month old.[4]
The children listed in their household in 1930 were: Jake, 10; Aaron, 8; Delois (or Dolores), 6; Texanna, 4; Annie, 1 month. There was also a cousin, Annie L. Waller, 41, widowed.[5] In 1940 they were: Jake, 20; Aaron, 18; Deloise (or Dolores), 16; Texana, 14; Annie,10; Luther, 6; and Ellie, 4.[6]
Rebecca died on 28 January 1989[7] and was buried in Shadowlawn Memorial Park, Birmingham, Alabama.[8]
