A graveside service celebrating the life of Macon E.Ayers will be held at 1 pm on Sunday, May 25 at Dallas Park Cemetery. Matthew Brett Ayers, Mac’s son, will be the celebrant, and Funeral Honors will be provided by VFW 784 Honor Guard and Rife Team. Mac died at his Ridgway home on December 4, 2013 following a two-year battle with brain cancer. He was born in Washington D.C. on October 10, 1942; the son of Joyce Warren Ayers and Emmett G. Ayers. He graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School and attended the University of Virginia, Blacksburg before enlisting in the Air Force. He graduated with honors from electronics school at Keesler AFB. During the Viet Nam War,Mac served his country as a Weapons Systems Officer flying F4 Phantoms. Prior to his 23 years as Director of Technical Operations for the American College of Cardiology, Mac’s employment history included broad-cast television and electronic security systems. He was married to Barbara Kendrick for 32 years.They shared a love of Colorado and retired in 2000 to make Ridgway their permanent home. An avid hiker and photographer, Mac also loved woodworking and became an exceptional maker of fine jewelry. Mac was preceded in death by a son, Mark Eugene Ayers. He is survived by his wife, Barbara; sisters Sandra Ayers Merry; Mary Highton; Judy Burggraf;and Hettie Williams; brother Robert Ayers, son Matthew Brett Ayers; daughter Kathryn Ayers Farris, son Joel Edward Ayers and 4 grandchildren.
