Biography

Jane Ayers moved at age 12 with her parents , to randolph Co., Ind. the only book she had to learn from was a Testament. She married Barton Harlan when she was 19. When Barton died at age 49 with heart failure, she was left with a large family and many debts to be paid. The farm was worked by the sons, but they left one by one until in 1886 only two were left at home, Ashley and Ida May. She rented the farm, spring of 1886. Ida went to school at DesMoines- Ashley went "west". Jane made her home with the J. J. Cady's near Hubbard, IA until August of that year when she departed for Furnas Co., NE because some of ther children settled there. She made her home with son, Allen who was one of the pioneer settlers in that area. Allen was still a bachelor. At age 64 she was hale and hearty and could walk 2 miles as easily as women 15 years younger. She belonged to a denominationknown as the Church of God. She had been a student of this doctrine for 50 years, having heard of it in Indiana from a preacher, Nathan Hornaday. by the year 1907 she had four children living in Corvallis, OR. She visited them for a few months, then returned to Holbrook where she died 1908.

Jane Ayres was my great grandmother and through her I have been able to trace our lineage to the Mayflower and beyond to the earliest of King Gewar of Norway
