Frank Headman Ayers was the son of George W. Ayers and Annie Dawson. He worked as a stock clerk at the Wanamaker's Department store in Philadelphia, PA. His death certificate listed cause of death as "strangulation while temporarily deranged. Frank had requested of his parents to be allowed to attend the World series game between the Chicago Cubs and the Philadelphia Athletics. His request was denied as he was scheduled to work. He attended the ballgame anyway. His mother discovered that he had been absent from work for three days. He was sent to bed without dinner. A short while later, his sister went to bring him downstairs and discovered he had hanged himself from the stair rails using a sheet. His father was at work at the time. The boy was probably frightened of the punishment his father would mete out. His father was a Philadelphia Police officer and likely a stern disciplinarian. A tragic end to a young life.
