Samuel was the son of Samuel Ayres and Abigail Fellows. Whitmore listed him as among the sons of Samuel and Abigail, but did not know his date of birth.[1] Therefore, an estimate was made by a more recent researcher of 1692 to reflect a typical birthing pattern after the children whose birth dates were known. However, a later researcher claims that he was the twin of Mary, the first child Whitmore listed, and his birthday was 13 Jan 1677-8, or alternatively, 30 Jan 1677-8.[2][3][4] Note that the third reference also lists Mary two lines above Samuell. This ledger appears to be a transcription of older records as the births on any given page are not listed in chronological order, and they are all in the same hand.
In 1748, William Ayers of Brookfield was appointed guardian of his son John Ayers, aged 6 years in right of his John's aunt, Elizabeth, widow of his uncle John Ayers.[5]
