When Sarah "Sallee" Ayres was born on May 25, 1790, in Buckingham, Virginia, her father, John, was 38, and her mother, Jane, was 29. She married Amos Maupin in 1809 in Albemarle, Virginia. Both her father, John Ayres, and her husband’s father William Maupin had fought in the Revolutionary War. Sallee and Amos had three children: Ayres, Virginia and Cynthia. She died on July 14, 1852, in Campbell, Tennessee, at the age of 62.
