Biography

Ichabod Babcock, son of John Babcock and Mary Champlin, was born 21 Nov 1703 in Westerly, Rhode Island. [1][2] He married Jemima Babcock, his cousin and daughter of Joseph Babcock and Rebecca Stanton, on 1 Dec 1731.[2] Jemima's father, Joseph, was son of John Babcock and Mary Lawton, grandson of James 1st Babcock.

Ichabod Babcock, Sr., was Lieutenant First Company Westerly Militia 1734-36. Ichabod was appointed administrator of his mother's estate 25 Nov 1760. In July, 1768, Ichabod and Jemima were members of the S. D. B. Church in that part of Westerly which is now Ashaway, a village in the town of Hopkinton, Washington County, Rhode Island. Jemima died at Westerly (Ashaway) in 1768. Ichabod died on 2 Jun 1772 when his house burnt.[3] Both are buried at the First Hopkinton Cemetery, Hopkinton, Rhode Island.[4]

I'm still a bit new to WikiTree, so I am taking this route of posting a comment to suggest a change in Ichabod's date of death. I have two sources indicating he died 2 Jun 1772 (his house burnt) in Westerly. The sources are Rhode Island Vital Extracts and a listing in the Providence Gazette. I would be glad to post these sources myself (they are after 1700) but thought I would seek permission from either of the profile managers before doing so. I will be glad to send them jpg/png of the sources first for them to vet as well. Just let me know what direction you would like me to take. Cheers! Kent Babcock

This seems reasonable and would ask you to post the correction with sources. It needs to be clear it is the same Ichabod Babcock. RI names tend to be highly duplicative which can cause confusion.

Thank you Carolyn. I am still learning on the editing and posting images front but hopefully have done a satisfactory job of providing references to support the change in the date of death for Ichabod Babcock Sr (1703-1772) (Babcock-1294). Any proximal, be it temporally or geographically, Ichabod Babcocks have distinctly different dates of death and/or location of death relative to this Ichabod's (1294) profile. In other words, the correct sources/documents are attached which are applicable to this Ichabod's profile.

Babcock-1655 and Babcock-1569 appear to represent the same person because: same parents, same bd, same place, same person
