Biography

Marriage

No original source has been found for the marriage between William Witt and Mildred Baber. One source gives it as 16 April 1782 in Albemarle County, Virginia[1]; another gives it as 26 Dec 1782 in Albemarle County[2]. Either date is plausible given the birth of their first child 25 Nov. 1783.

Census, Legal Record

1810 US Census: 6 August 1810, Estill County, Kentucky: William Witt: 1 Male 45 & over, 1 male under 10, 1 male age 10-15, 2 males 16-25, 2 females under 10, 1 female 10-15, 1 female 16-25.[3] No female of an age to be William's wife, Mildred, is on this census. It is surmised that she died before 1810; however, the mark for a female aged 16-25 might be in the wrong column since William and Mildred's two older daughters were married prior to 1810.

13 Sep 1794. Order to AC [Amherst County] J.P.'s Wm. Harris & Jos. Shelton, to quiz Mildred Witt, wife of Wm. - deed of same date to Jos. Roberts - 500 acres. Done 8 Oct 1794.[4]

Death

No death or burial records have been located for Mildred. She may have died before 1810 in Estill County, Kentucky, based on her apparent absence from the1810 US census, but a later death cannot be excluded.

Research Notes

Paternal and Maternal relationships are both confident based on a triangulated group on 23andMe who share a 21.45 cM segment on chromosome 5, consisting of J. Hornbacher and Hieronymus-93, his 6C, and PK, his 6C1R. Their most-recent common ancestors are Thomas Baber and Elizabeth, the 5x great grandparents of both J. Hornbacher and Hieronymus-93 and 6x great grandparents of PK. From their children, J. Hornbacher is a descendant of Mildred, Hieronymus-93 of Margaret, and PK of Stanley

The above mentioned record delineates 1782 as a marriage year also.

I heartily agree with the merge, and this should include Baber-232 as well. I believe 1762 is a good birth year....see U.S. and International Marriage Records 1560-1900.

Baber-315 and Baber-117 appear to represent the same person because: nearly same birth/death dates & places; both mother of John, Obediah and Mildred Witt.
Baber-232 and Baber-117 appear to represent the same person because: nearly same estimated birth/death dates & places; both married to William E. Witt.
