Biography

Dorothy was born in 1919. She passed away in 2011.

  • ObituaryWith family by her side on her 92nd birthday, our beloved mother, grandmother, aunt and dear friend died peacefully at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home, The Pas, Manitoba. Dorothy passed into the arms of our Lord with the same quiet dignity that she lived her life.
Dorothy was born Wednesday, March 12, 1919 in Brandon, Manitoba to Charles and Sarah Bagg. She moved to The Pas as a teenager with her family. Dorothy was married to Arvid Grant in The Pas, Manitoba, November 9, 1936.
Dorothy was involved in many community activities; The Pas Music Festival, Devon Rebekah Lodge #65 and was a lifetime member of the Christ Church Anglican. Dorothy served on the Vestry, as a Diocesan Synod delegate and was an active ACW member.
Summers were spent at the family cottage at Clearwater Lake. It became a gathering place for the growing family of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. As well as raising her family, Dorothy worked part time with her husband at the family business, Grant’s Meat Market. In her spare time, she enjoyed gardening, solving crossword puzzles and was an avid reader.
Left to cherish her memory are her children; Judy Wiebe, Louise (Jim) Ilchyshyn, Arthur, Sally (John) Pierson, David, Leslie (Wayne) Wright; 16 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 8 great, great, grandchildren.
Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Arvid; three siblings, Arthur Bagg, Eleanor McNeil, Edith Devenny; and several other family members.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff at St. Paul’s Personal Care Home where Dorothy resided for the past six years.
In keeping with Dorothy’s wishes, cremation took place and a service of remembrance to celebrate Dorothy’s life was held Saturday, March 19, 2011, 3:00 pm at Christ Church Anglican, The Pas, with Rev. Rebecca Graham presiding. Music ministry was provided by Rochelle Rydberg and the Christ Church Choir.
