Biography

When Charlotte Bailey was born on February 23, 1809, in Minisink, New York, her father, Jonathan, was 24, and her mother, Catherine, was 25. She married Richard Allison Elmer on September 11, 1832. They had six children in 11 years. She died on September 4, 1882, in Waverly, New York, at the age of 73, and was buried in Waverly, New York.

Obituary Record:
Death of Mrs. Charlotte Bailey of Waverly Monday Morning.
Mrs. Charlotte Bailey, wife of the late Richard A. Elmer, died at the residence of her son, Howard Elmer, at Waverly, N. Y., Monday in the 72d year of her age. She was stricken with paralysis some months since, at Baltimore, where she was visiting, but recovered sufficiently to be removed home. She was in her 73d year.
Mrs. Elmer was the daughter of Colonel Jonathan Bailey, and was born at Ridgebury, in this county [Orange, NY]. Benjamin F. Bailey, who lives on the old homestead, is a brother, and Mrs. J. T. W. Coulter of this village [Middletown, NY], is a sister. The late Mrs. Eliza Mondon of Port Jervis was the other sister.
The deceased married the late Richard A. Elmer and removed to Waverly, where she has since resided. She leaves four children - Howard, the Banker; Richard A., the Assistant Post-Master General; and two unmarried daughters, who reside at home."
