Obituary

Frank V. Bailey, age 81, of Sedan, formerly of Florence, Kansas, passed away Monday, July 13, 2009 at the Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.

He was born on July 15, 1927 in Emporia, Kansas to Ora L. "Pop" and Iona (Mast) Bailey. He attended school until the tenth grade in Emporia. He lived in Roswell, New Mexico, Marion, Kansas, and Florence, Kansas. He served stateside in the United States Army during World War II. He later worked for an oil company as a truck driver and later owned and operated a recycling company. He married Barbara Collins on June 8, 1945 in Cottonwood Falls, Kansas. They later divorced. He married Wilma Glasock and she preceded him in death. He then married Lois Seward and she also preceded him in death.

He was a lifetime member of the VFW. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and growing his vegetable garden.

He is survived by three sons; Frank V. Bailey Jr. of Emporia, Kansas, Rocky Bailey of Emporia, Kansas, and Rick Bailey of Austin, Texas; two daughters, Debra Fernandez of Houston, Texas and Penny Long of Peru, Kansas; one step-daughter, Carolyn Moody of Ulysses, Kansas; two brothers, Earl Bailey of Park City, Kansas and Paul Bailey of Canton, Kansas; one sister, Inez Ryan of Independence, Kansas; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wives Wilma and Lois, two grandsons, one great-granddaughter, and one brother Ferris Bailey.

A Memorial Service will be held Wednesday, July 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at the Marion City Cemetery in Marion, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society or the Pleasant Valley Manor Nursing Home and these remembrances may be left in care of David W. Barnes Funeral Home, 209 N. Douglas, Sedan, Kansas 67361.
