Research Notes. My belief is that Daniel Bain probably married a Dille, rather than Sarah Vincent. I have many dna matches to descendants of Dille, and the Bain and Dille families were closely associated from near Winchester, Va., to Washington Co., Pa, to Belmont and Morgan Cos. Ohio, and on to Mo. If anyone has an original document remotely suggesting Daniel Bain married Sarah Vincent, I would be glad to hear about it.

Circumstantial evidence suggests that Daniel Bain's wife might be a daughter of Aaron Dille and Mary Fletcher. I have currently identified 54 dna matches to Dille descendants, but most of which I do not know the location of the matching segments. I have identified the following clusters on chromosomes 1, 11 and 10, which tend to confirm a Dille = Bain relationship. Do other Bain descendants have any Bain and Dille dna matches at a common location.

Hundreds of people have copied the claim that Daniel Bain's father is John Bane, son of Nathan Bane, of Chester Co., Pa. This is not surprising, since 5 Bane brothers of Chester Co. settled in Washington Co., Pa, but there is no known association of Daniel Bain with these families. There is left a John Bain/Bean/Been in the records of Washington Co., who is in the right location, and associated with the right people to be the father of Daniel Bain. The following records make it clear that the father of Daniel Bain cannot be the John Bane of Chester Co., Pa.

This information is mostly from Daniel's Rev War pension papers, and I can be contacted for more detailed information if necessary. I believe I am listed on the profile of Daniel's son, John Bain. 1 We know Daniel Bain was born in March, 1763 or 1764, near Winchester, Va. 2 We know Daniel had brothers, John b. about 1770, Jesse born about 1772, and sister Mary m. Charles Craycraft. 3 John was born 1770, or possibly 1774, in Virginia, according to his son, Elisha. 4 Daniel was living on Ten Mile Creek, Washington Co., Pa., when he entered the Service in 1781. He had Rev War service 1781-1783. Continued serving after the War for several years. 5 Daniel’s brother, John Bain, b. 1770, was living on Ten Mile Creek as a boy. Their father’s house was burned by the Indians sometime after 1770, as they lost their records at that time. That was probably when their two sisters were killed by the Indians, and they were probably living on the Virginia side of the Ohio River, at that time.

So the father of Daniel Bain was apparently in Virginia by 1763, and probably until about 1778, and he backed up into Washington Co., Pa, when the Indians became more dangerous. The records of John Bain/Bean continue for some time after 1790 in Washington Co.

In particular, John Bean served 1781-1783 in the 3rd Bn, 5th Co, 4th Class under Capt Wm Leet. He appears on numerous tax lists in Washington Co., Pa, mostly in Strabane Twp. He is on a few other records, and sometimes listed as Been. I don’t know which John may have married Kezia Clark, but it appears to be John Bane of Chester Co. The identification of the father of Daniel Bain is not very clear, but it is clear that the father of Daniel Bain was not John Bane, son of Nathan, of Chester Co.

At the same time as the above records, John Bane of Chester Co., son of Nathan Bane, served 1780-1783 in the 1st Bn, 4th Company, in Chester Co., Pa. He was also on Chester Co., Tax lists, and so on.

For example, on the 1768 tax exoneration lists, there are double adjacent listings for John and James. 1768 John Bane, with 80 acres, and James Bane, with 84 acres, are listed adjacent, Birmingham, Chester Co. 1768 John Bean, 80 acres, and James Bean, 84 acres, same as above, also on West Bradford, Chester Co. list.

John Bane’s sister, Sarah, m. Thomas Hoopes 28 Apr 1763, Concord MM, Chester Co. Witnesses were Hannah, James and John Bane, and Amy Cope, children of Nathan Bane.

York County, Pennsylvania Wills, 1749-1819. Newberry Township. James Bane. Will written Jan. 11, 1812, proved 14 Mar 1814. Exec.: William Hooper and Isaac Kirk. Wife: Margaret Bane. Nephew and Nieces: Nathan, Sarah and Vashti, children of brother John Bane.

The evidence is that John Bane of Chester Co., was never in Virginia, or Washington Co., and certainly not when and where Daniel's family was known to be.

I would add that from skimpy information, my Y-dna does not match a descendant of Mordecai Bane of Chester Co.. See Bain dna project. 253412, Mordecai Bane, b.1683 d. 1747, R1b1a2

Family Finder dna pretty well confirms my line up to Daniel Bain, and hard to go much further with that type dna.

Biography

Daniel Bean (aka Bain) is found on the United States Census of 1830, living on Brush Creek, in Muskingum county, Ohio. [1]

Daniel Bain is found on the Tax records of 1831, living in Muskingum county, Ohio, where his first wife died before 1832. [2]

On September 20 1832, in Muskingum county, Ohio, Daniel married Susanna Elson. [3]

From the Pension Application for John Bain 1738-1848, Daniel's brother, National Archives Microseries M804, Roll 113, Appplication #S22110, we find that "Daniel lived in Muskingum Co., Ohio, but moved to Des Moines Co., Iowa where he died in 1840." [4]

Although Stufflebeam researchers typically list Elizabeth Keziah Bain as marrying Jacob Stufflebeam, Daniel Bain's probate record lists separately daughters Keziah and Elizabeth. Elizabeth married Frederick Stainbrook.

State of Iowa, Des Moines County Personally appeared before me George Fairlee who being duly sworn upon his oath says that the following is a true list of the heirs of Daniel Bain deceased. heirs of Vincent Bain, John Bain, Delila Bain), Keziah Bain, heirs of Danl Bain), Bryson Bain, Elizabeth Bain, Andrew Bain, (Sarah Bain's heirs). Sworn and subscribed before me the 6th day of December 1847. George Fairlee

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Daniel by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Daniel:
