Simon Baird was born about 1774, location unknown, believed to be Western, New York. [1][2]
Estimation of Birthdate: He was over 55 in 1830, and his wife under 55. Assuming that their ages were relatively close together, that make him 56 and her 53, thus making him born 1774 and her 1777.
Marriage
He married Jennie, last name unknown, born in Oakland, NY[2]
Children
He would have been in Rome, Oneida County, New York, in 1824 when his son John was born.
John Baird, born 1824 in Rome, Oneida Co, NY, and aged 6 in 1830; died 23 Jan 1892 in Rome, NY; married Hannah Ann Terwilliger, Abt. 1860.[2]
Research Notes
There is much that we don't know about Simon and are seeking to research.
Baird Origins: Contemporaneous Bairds
Pat Baker Scattaglia found a Simon Baird who came to America in the early nineteenth century from Dublin and settled in North Carolina. He is said to have had 5 children: [1]
Simon (settled in Missouri and Arkansas.)
John (settled in Arkansas)
Polly
Nettie
Peggie
Baird Origins: New Hampshire
The following persons named Baird were noted in the colonial era in the Province of New Hampshire: [3]
One could hypothesize two different accounts of the family based on this information alone:
A, the small children are Simon's children. His wife Jennie is actually in her late 30's, the male under 24 is her oldest son born when she was in her early 20's, and the three small children are hers.
B, the small children are Simon's grandchildren. His wife Jennie is as shown, about 53, the young man is 23 and born when she was 30, and the small children are his children but his wife is missing, perhaps recently deceased.
Census of 1840
In the Census of 1840 for New York State, there is a Henry V. Baird and William Baird in Sterling, Cayuga County.[5]
Bedient Baird
There was a Bedient Baird of Western, New York.
