Biography

John Baker was born on 23 January 1872 in the English county of Somerset, UK. His parents were Alfred Baker and his wife, Eliza Vowles. He lost his father shortly after his 1872 birth. On the 1881 UK Census, he was recorded as the "Stepson" of Charles Dunn, who had married his mother.

When he was a teenager, John Baker moved to Glamorganshire, Wales, seeking employment. There he met and married Mary Ann Morgan, b: 1873 in Wales. She was the daughter of William Morgan, where John was living as a Lodger in 1891, as noted on the 1891 UK Census. They married shortly after that UK Census and their first child, Eliza Ann Baker, was born in 1893. The couple lived in Pont-y-Pridd, Hopkinstown, Wales, and had 3 children:

  2. William Alfred Baker, b: 21 Dec 1895 in Hopkinstown, Wales
