Biography

Robert was born in Bell County, Kentucky, USA in 1908. He is found in Bell County in the 1910 and 1920 Federal Censuses. He is found in Harlan County, Kentucky, USA in the 1930 and 1940 Federal Censuses. Robert married Lillian Mae Gilbert on December 16, 1932 in Dressen, Harlan County, Kentucky, USA. Robert died in Knoxville, Knox County, Tennessee, USA.

Robert Groves Baker was born and grew up on a farm on Log Mountain in Bell County, Kentucky. After his father died, the family moved to Harlan County, Kentucky. As a young adult, he once said that he worked every job there was in a coal mine, both inside and outside jobs.

Later, he worked as a mine supply warehouse foreman until he moved his family to Knox County, Tennessee in the early-1950's. There, he continued to work in warehousing for many years. Later he took up barbering, which he continued until he was in his 70's.
