Biography

Richard Baker of Cranbrook, son of Thomas Baker and Benet, father of sons John, Thomas and James, and daughters Joan, Elizabeth and Katherine.[1]

Richard's father Thomas Baker of Cranbrook, made a will on 3 February 1493 which mentions family members as follows:-[1]

  • his wife Benet;
  • brother Richard;
  • Henry son of brother Richard;
  • sons Richard and James (deceased);
  • Benet the daughter of son James;
  • Johan, Elizabeth and Kateryn daughters of son Richard; and
  • John, Thomas and James sons of son Richard;

Richard Baker made his will on 7 August 1504, listing:-[2]

  • sons John (of school age and under 24), Thomas and James;
  • three daughters;
  • wife Johane;
  • Richard Wi[l]son, vicar of Cranbrook;
  • Sir John Bolde priest of Cranbrook;
  • John Baker schoolmaster of Cranbrook and his wife Elizabeth;
  • William Garrard;
  • executors John Davy and Thomas Sheff;
  • overseer Gervase Hendele;
  • mother Benet;
  • witnessed by Richard Wilson, John Baker the schoolomaster, Gervase Hendele, John Baker son of the testator and John Hamme.

Richard Baker died on 9 August 1504.[3]
