Private Reuben Baker served with 1st Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment (1775), Continental Army during the American Revolution.

Reuben was born Feb. 8, 1756 in Shrewsbury, Worcester County, Massachusetts. [1] (On page five of Reuben's Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Application Files, it states in an affidavit of his statement, "that he was born in Shrewsbury, Feb 8th, 1756 - That he has no record of his age except one made in his bible copied from a record made by his father")

Reuben was a Revolutionary War patriot. A few days after the Battle of Lexington, Reuben went to Cambridge, Massachusetts where he enlisted with a company of the Massachusetts militia for the Continental Army. He served in Captain Richard Gridley's Company of Artillery and he was injured in the Battle of Bunker Hill.

Reuben was a Private in Capt. Job Cushing's company, Col. Jonathan Ward's 1st Massachusetts Bay Provincial Regiment in 1775. [2] [3] [4]

Reuben married Miriam Smith on 5 Sep 1778 in Shrewsbury. [5] [6] [7]

Miriam died, and he married Charlotte Howe as his second wife. [5] [6] [8] Charlotte died after having three children with him: [5]

  2. Luke, b. June 27, 1784.
  3. Charlotte Howe Baker, b. Dec. 2, 1786.

Reuben married his third wife, Elizabeth (Betsey) Maynard née Woodbury, on 18 May 1789. [5] [6] [7]

Reuben and "Betty" had these children born in Shrewsbury: [5]

  2. Jesse, b. Jan. 21, 1794.
  3. Edeth, b. April 16, 1798

He passed away in 1834.
