A sad drowning fatality occurred about five miles from Tewantin on Wednesday evening. A young man named Roy Baker, 19 years of age, son of Mr. Owen Baker, with some others, went for a swim in a lagoon on Mr. W..Tronson's property at Ringtail. He evidently got into difficulties, as an attempt was made, to save him, but without avail. The body was recovered on, Thursday morning in 20ft. of water. The deceased came from the Pittsworth district a short time back with his father, with a mob of starving sheep, to graze on the Coast, and at the time of the fatality was looking after the sheep. It is understood the body was taken to Pittsworth for burial. Owing to the telephone line being down, no further particulars are available.
General regret was expressed here when advice was received on Wednesday night that Roy Baker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Owen Baker, of Pittsworth, had lost his life by drowning at Noosa Heads (our Pittsworth correspondent advises). The deceased was 15 years of age, and left the distnct about four months ago in company with his father, in charge of sheep belonging to Mr. Herbert, of Brook stead. It appears that the lad was bathing in the surf, when he was carried out by the undertow. The body was brought to Pittsworth on Friday evening, and the funeral took place next day.
