Biography

Sarah was the daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth Baker. She was baptised at Hascombe, St Peter on September 29 1805.[1]

Sarah Baker married by banns in the parish of Hascombe in 1829, to Frederick Stent, son of Hannah.[2] She had 2 daughters born in the marriage, Caroline and Charlotte.

Sarah's mother Elizabeth came to live with the family after her husband's death. 1

Charlotte had a daughter, Elizabeth, in 1860 out of wedlock. Charlotte's whereabouts after the 1861 census is unknown and Elizabeth remained with Sarah and Frederick until she moved to London and went into service as a domestic servant.

In their old age, Sarah and Frederick moved into the workhouse at Hambledon.

Sarah Stent died aged 80 at the Hambledon Union workhouse [3] and was buried on August 5 1884, Hascombe, St Peter.
