According to various sources he has been listed as having more than one wife. Among those wives is a Susannah Morris. James and a Susannah Baker were witnesses when John Baker gave the consent for the marriage of Iffa Baker and Elisha Harrison. James' Uncle George was married to a Susannah Morris on 2 August 1778 in Wilkes, North Carolina. It is possible that this Susannah Morris is the wife of George Baker.
He is shown to have two other wives listed in the World Connect Project, but there are no sources or children.
In the 1820 census, he was on the same page with Boling Baker Jr. and a John Baker over age 45. He is apparently a much younger James.
