Biography

Research Note

An Amelia Baker who had illegitimate children had birth dates consistent on census returns of 1805.

Amelia Baker who married Henry Longman had a father John, a Blacksmith and consistent birth dates around 1811-1812.

It is possible these 2 women are different people.

(uncertain) According UK census reports and GRO records, Amelia was born about 1805 in West Coker, somerset and buried 18.X.1900 at Blessed Virgin Mary, Batcombe, Somersetshire, England, age 89, after a long life on her own terms.

(uncertain) Her son Alfred was born in 1831, father unknown, and she continued to have a number of children after that, which she apparently supported as a "Glover", until she married dairyman Henry Longman, after which she had no more children.

(possibly different person) Records show she gave birth to Mary Ann Baker 27.II.1834, Sabina in 1837, Letitia Baker, 14.III.1842, Jean in 1843 and Jane in 1843 West Coker, and others.

Amelia was baptised on 20 October 1811 in West Coker by parents John and Phoebe. John was a Blackmsith. [1]

Amelia Baker and widower Henry Longman married in West Coker on 17 January 1856. Henry was a Dairyman, his father robert a Yeoman, Amelia's father John was a Blacksmith. [2] After Henry Longman died she went to live with daughter Letitia Gray at Saint Cuthbert's Out, in Somersetshire, England. UK Census returns:
